Before you choose a recruiting firm, you need to make sure the one you partner with will meet your needs when it comes to hiring a leader, but will also follow-up on their placement to make sure the new employee is meshing well with the company.
1. How long has your company been in business?
An experienced firm is more likely to have a qualified list of candidates to choose from to fill your openings. Start-up firms may have a limited range of qualified candidates from which to choose your next leader.
2. In what industry do your recruiters specialize?
A firm with recruiters who specialize in your business’ industry will be far more likely to have the contacts they need to find a strong fit for your company. Ensure that the company itself has experience in your field or the person with whom you would be working has recruiting experience in your specialized field.
3. Who will be my point of contact?
Keep in mind the person convincing you the firm has the tools to offer a great leader for your company may not be the person with whom you work each day to find qualified candidates. Ask to speak with the team member who will be searching for your next manager.
4. What is the success rate of the firm?
A successful recruiting firm tracks, analyzes and shares their hiring information. Feel free to ask about the company’s average time for placement and the percentage of employees recruited by the firm still in their position after one year.
5. What can you guarantee?
Reputable recruiting firms do not avoid the question of guaranteed placement. How does the company plan to fix the challenge of a new hire failing or quitting during their probationary period? Make sure that guarantee is worded in your contract.
6. With which companies does the recruiting firm work?
This question is a twofold inquiry. Discovering the client base of the recruiting firm will give you an idea of the industries the firm has served, but you should also inquire about testimonials or references from those clients so you can discover first-hand what working with the recruiters will be like.
